Gluten Free Orange and Poppy Seed Cake

My partner once told me that I am a woman that hard to please… Well, maybe just because I have particular taste… hahaha…

I am not really into sweet nor sour. But of course I like cakes; cakes that are light and not too sweet. Gluten free even better! Lol… now you see what he is talking about? Since not many cake shops have that kind of cake, I make my own cake when I have time.

One of my favourite is Gluten Free Orange and Poppy Seed Cake. Easy to make and yumm…! Perfect to have with a pot of tea… Yes, a pot! Because a cup won’t be enough… Hard to stop when you had a bite… :p

The below recipe I made with a big baking tray size 32 cm x 22 cm x 6 cm. I always make plenty to share with loved ones. So if you want to use a smaller baking tray, I would suggest you adjust this recipe accordingly.

  • 2 whole orange (do not peel, chopped roughly and remove the seeds)
  • 250 g butter (melted)
  • 6 eggs
  • 1 ½ cup caster sugar
  • 3 cups gluten free flour
  • 7 tsp baking powder
  • 4 tbs poppy seeds

Cooking Method:

  1. Preheat oven to 170C Fan Forced.
  2. Grease and line a baking tray with baking paper.
  3. Puree whole orange in food processor.
  4. Add melted butter, eggs and caster sugar to food processor until all mix well.
  5. In a big bowl, sift flour and baking powder. Mix it well.
  6. Pour the orange mixture into the bowl of flour and baking powder. Add poppy seeds and mix until all well combined. Make sure no flour lump on the bowl.
  7. Pour the mixture to the tray and bake for approximately 45 minutes. Maybe on halfway you want to reposition the tray to make sure all area equally heated.
  8. Once it cook, rest it until it cool down
  9. For serving, cut a slice and top it with icing sugar.

Happy baking! Keep me posted if you decided to give this recipe a go 🙂
